Request Support for Toileting

Toileting is a team effort at GROW Paediatrics

Depending on your child’s needs, support may come from:

Registered Nurses (RNs)

Our RNs bring expertise in continence, bowel health, constipation management, complex care, feeding, and medical factors that influence toileting. They provide clinical assessment, monitoring and medical guidance to ensure toileting plans are safe and appropriate.

Occupational Therapists (OTs)

Our OTs look at the everyday skills behind toileting—sensory needs, motor skills, routines, independence and regulation. They create practical, step-by-step strategies and environmental modifications that help children feel calm, organised and ready for toileting success.

Psychologists & Counsellors

Our psychology team supports the emotional side of toileting—worries, avoidance, fear, behavioural challenges or big feelings around the bathroom routine. They help children build confidence while supporting parents with helpful, compassionate strategies.

Together, this multidisciplinary team ensures your child receives holistic, coordinated support.

What does our Toileting Team do?

Our toileting team helps children develop the skills, confidence and routines they need for successful toileting – whether they are just beginning the journey or need extra support due to developmental, sensory or medical needs.

At GROW Paediatrics, our continence and toileting support is led by experienced clinicians including registered nurses and allied health therapists who specialise in helping children from birth to 8 years with:

  • Toilet training delays or challenges
  • Constipation, withholding or stool avoidance
  • Daytime wetting, frequency or urgency
  • Bedwetting (enuresis)
  • Continence issues linked to neurodivergence or developmental delay
  • Toileting needs related to complex medical or feeding challenges

Every plan is tailored to your child’s unique sensory, developmental and health needs, helping them feel safe, supported and successful.

Our Approach

Our toileting support is gentle, child-led and pressure-free. We understand that children do best when they feel safe and understood—and that toileting success requires more than just a plan.

Our team:

  • Looks at the whole picture (development, sensory profiles, bowel health, feeding, routines and behaviour)
  • Creates achievable, family-friendly toileting plans
  • Uses evidence-based continence, behavioural and sensory strategies
  • Prioritises emotional safety and confidence at each step
  • Works closely with families, educators and medical teams

Many families reach out after trying multiple approaches without success—we’re here to guide you with expertise, kindness and clear, step-by-step support.

What to expect

When you work with our toileting team, you can expect a calm, supportive and respectful experience. We begin by getting to know your child—their routines, challenges, sensory needs and health history—so our plan fits them, not the other way around.

Your journey may include:

  • A holistic toileting and continence assessment
  • Review of bowel health, hydration, feeding and routines
  • Sensory and behavioural strategies
  • A step-by-step toileting plan tailored to your child
  • Parent coaching and practical home strategies
  • Collaboration with GPs, paediatricians and educators

We celebrate small wins, adjust the plan as your child grows and support you through every step. Our goal is to help your child feel confident, safe and successful—while supporting families with guidance that truly makes a difference.
